Apollinaire Biography.
 



Wilhelm Albert Wlodzimierz Apolinary of Waz-Kostrowicki in other words Guillaume Apollinaire was born the 26 august 1880 in Rome. He died in battle at the age of 38 years old, the 9 November 1918.

His mother was a rich Polish. She brought up Apollinaire alone. In 1897 they went to Monaco and Apollinaire was registered in high school of Cannes and Nice.

In 1908, he feels in love with Marie Laurencin and he met Picasso, Derain and Rousseau.

He began to write poems in 1910. His poems were bring together in Alcools.

In 1914, he was enlisted in army, it’s for him a way of become French. He was hurt in the head by a shrapnel the 17 March 1916.

He was evacuated and operate after his injury, he returned in Paris. Next to a long time of convalescence, he restarted to work and his play "Les mamelles de Tirésias" was a success in June 1917.

He published Calligrams in 1918.

Guillaume Apollinaire died in 1918 of the Spanish flu. He was buried in the cemetery of Père-Lachaise in Paris. In his grave we can see a work of art of Picasso. On his grave there is also three strophe of “colline”, which is about his poetry project and of his death. There is also on his grave a calligram which is a heart “my heart like a torch reversed”.
Apollinaire is named on commemorative plates of the Pantheon in Paris because his died for the France during the First World War. Apollinaire is now considered one of the greatest French poets of the early twentieth century.
